Project overview
DearTomorrow: Dear Slovakia is a pioneering project in collaboration with DearTomorrow, an acclaimed global climate organization based in the United States. This initiative aims to bring DearTomorrow’s creative methodologies to Slovakia, to support deeper community engagement and climate action.
DearTomorrow has a proven track record of successfully engaging people worldwide through storytelling. Their approach involves co-created partnerships, workshops, and strong art exhibits or installations – inviting participants to reflect on their climate legacies. By writing climate letters to loved ones to the future, participants can process complex emotions and imagine their own – preferably sustainable – future. DearTomorrow uses three key mechanisms to inspire climate action:
- Legacy: Encouraging reflections on our impact on future generations.
- Emotional Connection: Using personal stories to build emotional engagement.
- Future Imagining: Helping participants envision a livable, sustainable future.
DearTomorrow believes that storytelling is fundamental to driving change. By sharing personal stories, we shape the social, political, and physical world, inspiring hope and collective action. To use maximum of the storytelling potential, this project focuses on:
- Personal Reflection: Encourage individuals to reflect on the climate crisis’s impact on their lives and share their stories.
- Meaningful Conversations: Facilitate discussions on climate change and our roles in creating solutions.
- Community Collaboration: Partner with organizations to streghten public engagement and provide climate communication resources.
- Public Art Exhibits: Co-create inclusive exhibits with community partners, showcasing participants’ climate contributions.
- Thought Leadership: Engage in network building and publish strategies to promote effective climate engagement.
Project Objectives & Activities
SEQ is adapting DearTomorrow’s framework to suit the Slovak context through a series of activities designed to promote climate justice and sustainable behaviors.
Ten trainers and educators will be trained to use DearTomorrow’s resources and deliver workshops with added expertise in effective climate communication and public engagement strategies. This training will increase awareness and deepen the commitment of 50 workshop participants, actively engaging them in climate justice actions. Additionally, the project will support the educational community, providing over 100 members with valuable and tested DearTomorrow resources to promote climate justice actions among individuals and communities in Slovakia and beyond.
