At Slovak Eco Quality (SEQ), we are proud to announce the culmination of months of hard work and collaboration in the development of our innovative board game “Threads of Fortune: The Fashion Empire Game”, part of the 4F – Fast Fashion? Fast Forward! (4F) project. Funded by the European Union under Key Action 2 of the Erasmus+ programme, this project aims to educate and engage individuals in sustainable practices within the textile and clothing industry.
The Journey of Our Board Game
The development of the 4F board game has been an exciting and challenging journey. Our story began in early March with an initial testing phase in Poland. While the game was in good shape, we saw the potential for refinement to enhance its educational impact. This led to the formation of a task force dedicated to integrating additional features.
A key idea was the introduction of consequence cards, designed to illustrate the real-world impact of players’ decisions. We also decided to incorporate a timeline, dividing the game into past and future phases, where actions in the future carry greater consequences, mirroring real-life environmental stakes.
In Budapest, our task force—comprising Nori, Kriszti, Gabi, and Marco—spent four intense days brainstorming, testing, and refining the game. Despite the sweltering 40-degree heat, we managed to play the game over ten times, iterating and improving with each session. This collaborative effort resulted in a robust final version ready for broader testing.
Returning to our respective countries, we continued testing the game with various groups. Nori tested with family and friends in Hungary, Kriszti with flatmates and friends in Oslo, and I played with nephews and nieces in Italy. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with players showing enthusiasm and offering valuable suggestions.
Bringing the Game to Life
With the feedback incorporated, we spent the last few weeks perfecting the design and graphics. The final version of the instructions was also completed, marking the end of our development phase. Our game is now ready to inspire and educate young people and beyond about sustainable fashion.
We invite you to join us on this journey of sustainability and circularity in textiles. Stay tuned for updates on our project website and social media channels as we launch the game and other educational resources.
Let’s rethink fashion together and take meaningful steps towards a more sustainable future.
